Celebrating Pride Month - inclusion, identity and being yourself every day

By Georgie Chambers, Content and Social Media Producer

Pride Month is about celebrating LGBTQAI+ identities, recognising the progress made, and continuing the journey toward a more inclusive and equal society. It’s also a chance to reflect on the challenges still faced by many, especially people whose voices are often left out of the conversation and including people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss.

At SeeAbility, we believe that everyone should be able to live as their true selves with the freedom to express who they are and form meaningful relationships. Pride Month reminds us how important it is to create spaces where that’s possible.

While there’s been huge progress, LGBTQAI+ people with disabilities often face extra barriers whether it’s being misunderstood, not having access to the right support, or feeling excluded from LGBTQAI+ spaces.

But change is possible and Pride is a powerful part of that change. It’s a moment to celebrate joy and identity, but also to push for more understanding, more accessibility, and more equity for everyone.

SeeAbility Pride march with placards

How we support LGBTQAI+ inclusion all year round

At SeeAbility, Pride isn’t just one day or one month. We’re committed to inclusion every day through:

  • Sharing LGBTQAI+ voices - Including disabled activists and people we support
  • Creating safe and welcoming spaces - Where everyone can express themselves without fear or judgement
  • Inclusive leadership training - Supporting our colleagues to lead with empathy and understanding
  • Employment support through Ready, Willing and Able - Making sure everyone has the chance to find meaningful work
  • Our EDB (Equity, Diversity and Belonging) strategy - Guiding our actions across the charity

We’re proud to be attending Bristol pride again this year and working to make it accessible and welcoming to everyone. Whether it’s joining a parade or simply sharing stories, we want Pride to reflect the full diversity of our community.

“Pride Month is a celebration - but also a reminder. We’ve come a long way, but there’s still work to do to make sure everyone feels seen, safe, and valued. We all have a role to play in making that happen.”

- Rhi, Chair of SeeAbility’s Pride Network

Pride is for everyone

Pride is about being seen, being heard, and being yourself, whatever that looks like. Whether you’re part of the LGBTQAI+ community or an ally, this month is a chance to learn, listen, and celebrate together.
