Luke Tye
What do people like and admire about you?
I always give things a go. I like to try new things and figure out what support I'll need - I won't be put off! I also like to be independent.
What’s important to you?
I am a social person and love to help and support people where I can. I always listen to people and ask questions.
What things do you find challenging?
Technology could be easier, and I find it difficult to remember things. I always need reminding where I am meant to be!
What is the best way to support you?
I need support to remember appointments, meetings and any events that I need to attend. That is the main thing. I have support from my support team for this.
Why are you passionate about campaigning and making a difference?
Because we are the only people that experience what we go through every day. If we don’t raise awareness we'll get lost and forgotten, and then we won't have a platform to speak out about issues. Nobody will know what needs we have or what needs to be done.
What is something that you think needs changing to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss?
Having the right support and having people that you can understand and relate to. Everyone is unique and needs different types of support, so it is important to listen to people and hear what they really want.
What are your biggest strengths that will help you in this role?
Talking to people, communicating, and caring for others. I have a great deal of empathy and always want to make sure that people are ok.
