Our governance

SeeAbility, legally registered as The Royal School for the Blind, has a long history dating back to 1799 and is governed through Acts of Parliament, including the Act dated 5 May 1826.

Our Board of Trustees is formally known as the Council and is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of SeeAbility, ensuring that the charity is well run and continues to fulfil its charitable purpose.

The Council is supported by three committees:

  • The Finance and Audit Committee, which supports oversight of financial matters
  • The People and Quality Committee, which supports oversight of people and quality
  • The Governance and Remuneration Committee, which supports the Council on governance and remuneration matters.

The committees consider matters in greater detail and report back to the Council, which retains overall responsibility for the charity.
