Our impact in 2024-2025 easy read

This is our impact report.

It explains how we have made a difference to people’s lives over the past year.

We are really excited to share all our hard work!

We have made a difference to over 73,000 people through our work.

All of our homes are rated as good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

CQC are an organisation that decides how good support services are.

They make sure people are getting the right support.

We carried out 3,483 sight tests to children in special schools.

We supported 68 people to vote in the election.

Our 225th anniversary

We celebrated our 225th anniversary this year.

There were lots of celebrations.

There was a big walk up 24 mountains in 24 hours.

It was talked about on the TV!

We have also celebrated in our homes and in parliament.

We are excited to grow more in the future.

How we make a difference

We want to make sure people with learning disabilities get more opportunities and live better lives.

All our work is aimed at three goals:

1. Improving lives through good support.

2. Making sure people get the eye care they need.

3. Supporting more people to be involved in society.

Improving lives through good support

We help people to achieve their dreams.

Our Quality of Life research helps us to understand what people we support want to improve in their lives.

Most of our support teams have active support training.

Active support helps people to learn skills to be able to do more things on their own.

Almost everyone we support and their families think our support is good.

We are continuing to open new homes.

Making sure people get the eye care they need

People with learning disabilities are 10 times more likely to have eye problems.

We have been doing eye tests in special schools.

The government has said they will bring eye tests to every special school in England.

This could help over 160,000 children!

Lots of Members of Parliament (MPs) have seen our eye tests in schools.

Our Eye Care Champions help adults with learning disabilities to get the right eye care.

They have shared what they learnt in their research.

They are helping more people to get eye tests through our ‘Easy Eye Care’ programme.

This means it is easier for people with learning disabilities to get eye tests near where they live.

Our eye care team has won a lot of awards for their work.

Supporting more people to be involved in society

Our Ready, Willing and Able programme helps people with disabilities to find jobs.

This year we helped 7 people to get paid work.

We have a team of people with disabilities called Listen Up!

They raise awareness and speak up about the changes they want to see in society.

They helped people with learning disabilities to vote in the election.

They spoke to almost 7,000 people.

We also help people to understand accessibility.

Accessibility helps people with disabilities use websites and watch TV.

We worked with the Eurovision Song Contest to make it more accessible to watch.

Our plans for the future

It is a difficult time for social care, but we are excited about the future.

We will continue to open more homes to support more people.

We will do eye tests in more special schools.

Our Ready, Willing and Able programme will open in London and Oxfordshire.

Thank you to everyone who supports us.
