unforgettable challenge which will transform lives

Join Team SeeAbility for a five-day trek, as you experience the beauty of one of the most breathtaking and largest deserts in the world – the Sahara!

SeeAbility's Sahara Desert Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure where your support can transform lives for people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss. You'll trek over five days across the ever-changing landscape of the Sahara - through 100km of rock dunes, rocky plateaus and ancient landscapes - with each step forming a journey which you'll never forget.

What you need to know

How much does it cost?

The registration fee is £299 when you book, with a fundraising target ranging between £500 and £2,655 depending on how you fund your trek (see more details below.)

When is it?

The trek takes place from the 6th March to the 13th March 2027.

How long does it last?

The total trip takes 8 days (3 days of travelling and 5 days of trekking.)

How difficult is it?

The trek is challenging, with long days in the heat and across varied desert terrain.

What makes this trek so extraordinary?

This trek takes you deep into a remote part of the Sahara, far from tourist trails. Over five days, the landscape shifts constantly – from wide valleys and rocky plateaus to open sand and small oases – offering moments of challenge, stillness and awe.

It’s a shared experience, shaped as much by the people you meet as the ground you cover. Evenings are spent in traditional Berber camps, sharing food and stories, before sleeping under clear, star-filled skies.

The trek is physically demanding, with hot days and cold nights – but every step helps break down barriers and make the impossible feel possible for the people SeeAbility supports.

A typical day in the desert

Days begin early, walking for around three hours in the cool morning light as the desert slowly comes to life. As the heat rises, the group rests, refuels and rehydrates before heading out again for another stretch of trekking in the afternoon.

The terrain is varied but steady, with routes across valleys, plateaus and open sand, giving you time to find your rhythm and take in the scale of the landscape.

By evening, camp is set and the pace softens – meals are shared, stories exchanged and the night sky stretches overhead. For those observing Ramadan, the schedule allows time to break fast with guides and for prayer.

Who can join the trek?

This trek has been planned with inclusion at its heart. We welcome people with disabilities, people who would like additional support or adjustments, and people across a range of fitness levels who are ready to prepare for the challenge.

From your first enquiry onwards, our team will take time to understand your needs and work with you to help you take part safely, confidently and in a way that feels right for you. Adventure should be open to everyone.

We're with you all the way

Taking on a challenge like this is incredible and your fundraising should feel achievable, realistic and well-supported from the start. When you join Team SeeAbility, you’ll have access to practical guidance, one‑to‑one support and handy tools to help you fundraise in a way that works for you.

You’ll receive:

  • A dedicated contact from our fundraising team to help you plan and stay on track
  • Practical advice and creative ideas to help you reach your fundraising goal
  • Fundraising tools, templates and resources you can use straight away
  • Ongoing one‑to‑one support whenever you need it

What your support makes possible

Adventure and challenge should be open to everyone, yet many people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss are excluded from experiences others take for granted.

By fundraising for SeeAbility, you’re helping people access new opportunities, stretch their ambitions and take on experiences that can change how they see themselves and the world around them.

Your fundraising could support:

  • Opportunities for people we support to take on ambitious goals and work towards lifelong dreams
  • Advocacy that challenges assumptions, raises voices and supports people to push beyond the limits set by others
  • Better access to eye care and healthcare for people who are often missed or excluded
  • Technology and practical adaptations that increase independence and day‑to‑day confidence
  • Our supported employment programme, supporting people to prepare for, find and thrive in meaningful work
