Sahara Desert Trek
of trekking across sand dunes and desert valleys
days in the heart of the world's largest hot desert
unforgettable challenge which will transform lives
Join Team SeeAbility for a five-day trek, as you experience the beauty of one of the most breathtaking and largest deserts in the world – the Sahara!
SeeAbility's Sahara Dessert Trek is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure where your support can transform lives for people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss. You'll trek over five days across the ever-changing landscape of the Sahara - through 100km of rock dunes, rocky plateaus and ancient landscapes - with each step forming a journey which you'll never forget.
What makes this trek so extraordinary?
This trek takes you deep into a remote part of the Sahara, away from busy routes and tourist trails. Over five days, the landscape changes constantly, offering moments of challenge, stillness and wonder that you simply don’t get anywhere else. It’s a shared experience - shaped as much by the environment and the people you meet as by the distance you cover.
You’ll move through wide desert valleys, gorges and rocky plateaus, crossing stretches of open sand and small oases along the way. The terrain is varied but steady, giving you the time and space to take in the landscape and the scale of where you are.
Each evening, you’ll be welcomed into traditional Berber camps, sharing food, stories and time together after a long day of trekking. Nights are spent under clear, star‑filled skies, with little light pollution and a deep sense of calm that’s rare in everyday life.
This trek is physically demanding, with hot days and cold nights, but the rewards are unparalleled. By taking it on, you’re helping break down barriers and making the impossible feel possible for the people SeeAbility supports.

A typical day in the desert
The day begins early, waking to the cool, quiet air of the desert. After a hearty breakfast to energise you for the walk ahead, you set off on the first stretch of the day’s trek, walking for around three hours as the sun rises and the landscape slowly comes to life. These early miles are often the most serene, with wide horizons, shifting light and a steady pace as you find your rhythm for the day.
As the heat builds, the group pauses to rest in the shade during the hottest part of the day. This is a time to refuel, rehydrate and recover before setting out again in the afternoon. Another three hours of trekking follow, taking you through dramatic and varied terrain – from rocky plateaus and desert valleys to stretches of open sand.
By nightfall, the camp is set and the pace softens. Meals are shared, stories exchanged and there is time to rest beneath a clear night sky, scattered with stars. For trekkers observing Ramadan, evenings are structured to provide time and space to break fast later alongside our guides, as well as opportunities for prayer and any additional support needed.

Who can join the trek?
This trek has been planned with inclusion at its heart. We welcome people with disabilities, people who would like additional support or adjustments, and people across a range of fitness levels who are ready to prepare for the challenge.
From your first enquiry onwards, our team will take time to understand your needs and work with you to help you take part safely, confidently and in a way that feels right for you. Adventure should be open to everyone.

We're with you all the way
Taking on a challenge like this is incredible and your fundraising should feel achievable, realistic and well-supported from the start. When you join Team SeeAbility, you’ll have access to practical guidance, one‑to‑one support and handy tools to help you fundraise in a way that works for you.
You’ll receive:
- A dedicated contact from our fundraising team to help you plan and stay on track
- Practical advice and creative ideas to help you reach your fundraising goal
- Fundraising tools, templates and resources you can use straight away
- Ongoing one‑to‑one support whenever you need it
What your support makes possible
Adventure and challenge should be open to everyone, yet many people with learning disabilities, autism and sight loss are excluded from experiences others take for granted.
By fundraising for SeeAbility, you’re helping people access new opportunities, stretch their ambitions and take on experiences that can change how they see themselves and the world around them.
Your fundraising could support:
- Opportunities for people we support to take on ambitious goals and work towards lifelong dreams
- Advocacy that challenges assumptions, raises voices and supports people to push beyond the limits set by others
- Better access to eye care and healthcare for people who are often missed or excluded
- Technology and practical adaptations that increase independence and day‑to‑day confidence
- Our supported employment programme, supporting people to prepare for, find and thrive in meaningful work
