Kate Barker

Behaviour consultant
Person

What is your role?

I work as a behaviour consultant, which basically means I try to work out why we do what we do! If people are showing levels of behaviours that challenge that are impacting their quality of life then my aim is to work out why they are showing that behaviour and what can be done to reduce this.

What is your work history?

Before SeeAbility I spent a number of years working in a school working with individuals who are autistic. I mostly worked with the older students, where I realised that I got the most satisfaction out of teaching practical life skills, and so wanted to work with adults where I could do this more.

What inspires you?

The people we support.

What's your favourite thing to do outside work?

Usual things like seeing friends and family, and buying lots and lots of plants as I enjoy gardening!

What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?

Treat others how you would like to be treated yourself.

What’s one thing about you that people would be surprised to learn?

I have a black belt in a martial art.
