What is your role?
I'm a volunteer coordinator.
What is your work history?
My background is in the arts. I taught art therapy in nursing homes for 16 years, then went onto work in day centres for adults with disabilities.
I joined SeeAbility 17 years ago working at the Millennium Centre, in Leatherhead where I led sessions in art, poetry and I set up the Wild Cats drama group, a mixed ability group with the people we support and volunteer actors. We performed 2 plays a year. I enjoyed the interaction with volunteers and guiding them on how to work with the people we support.
I became a volunteer coordinator 9 years ago. I have continued to enjoy the role, and to grow with the role.
What inspires you?
The people I work with.
What's your favourite thing to do outside work?
Creating art and my garden are my passion.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
My first manager told me “always do what you believe to be right.”
What’s one thing about you that people would be surprised to learn?
“You are braver than you believe, smarter than you seem, and stronger than you think.”
