Meet Veronica Mulenga - Programme Lead for Creating Connections Meet Veronica Mulenga, our Programme Lead for our new project, Creating Connections - A new partnership between SeeAbility, Learning Disability England (LDE) and their members, that will see a 6-month rapid response programme, recruiting local volunteers and deploying peer supporters to help increase the network of support and social connections for people with disabilities most at risk. What drew you to working at SeeAbility? I’ve always strived to create opportunities where under-represented people are valued, respected and encouraged to further develop. I have seen first-hand the benefits culture change has on individuals, their employers, peers, their community and their circle of support. SeeAbility embodies this ethos throughout and I feel privileged to be part of the SeeAbility family as it enables me to continue my commitment and passion for making a difference. What are you responsible for? I’m leading on a new initiative, Creating Connections, which will give people with learning disabilities the training and support they need to use technology to keep in touch with their friends and family online. Tell us about Creating Connections We’re delivering the programme in partnership with Learning Disability England's peer-led member groups, which numbers 24 partners. The project aims to promote digital inclusion and build community by developing connections and building skills in communities across the UK. Safe volunteering will help combat the isolation and loneliness people have experienced during the lockdown. Read more about our partnership with LDE What are your priorities? My number one priority is meeting with all of the programme’s partners to map where the greatest need is. I’ll be setting up a Creating Connections Steering Group which will act as an advisory body for delivery partners, collate best practice and feed into the programme evaluation. Key to the success of the programme, is the recruitment and training of volunteers to support the delivery partners in their activities.
