“If you can get eye care right for people with learning disabilities, you can get it right for everyone.” – Scott Watkin BEM, Senior Learning Disabilities Advisor, SeeAbility

To kick off our 220th anniversary year in 2019, we’re proud to be the official charity partner of 100% Optical, the largest optical event in the UK which will take place on 12–14 January at London ExCel.

The partnership comes at an exciting time for SeeAbility, as we launch Every Day in Focus, our new project to improve access to community eye care for children and adults with learning disabilities.

Earlier in 2018, we were delighted that our special schools sight testing campaign, Children in Focus, gained backing from NHS England. However, there is still a long way to go to make sure that people with learning disabilities can access eye care in the community too.

Every Day in Focus will empower people with learning disabilities to manage their eye health by providing educational training sessions to help people understand how to look after their eyes and what happens at an eye test.

Crucially, by attending events like 100% Optical, we will support optical professionals to increase and improve accessibility within the sector.

At the show, optical professionals can source the latest eyewear, technology and solutions for their businesses, gain CET points, and network with industry peers.

This year, delegates can also learn how they can be part of making eye care accessible to all. We’ll be offering expert advice on how to make optical practices accessible and how to best serve patients with learning disabilities.

It’s all part of our mission to transform eye care for the people who need it most.
