Our Morocco trekkers have been out training for their adventure with a day out at Box Hill. The trainers, Alex and Roy, took them through some top tips for the trek, as well as some handy first aid and emergency procedures.

The bold adventurers will be flying off to Morocco on October 12th to climb Mount Toukbal, the highest peak in North Africa. The trek, sponsored by Family Building Society, will pair sighted and visually impaired travellers for a truly immersive and unique adventure to raise funds for SeeAbility. You can help them hit their target by donating here.

“We’re so grateful to Alex and Roy for leading our training day, as well as to Jenny for the sighted guide training,” said Bay Rees, Challenge and Special Events Manager, who organised the trek.

“It was great that so many of our wonderful participants were able to attend and meet others in their team as well as prepare for the amazing challenge that lies ahead of them.”

As well as trek training, the team also had the chance to practice their sighted guiding skills, including supporting people with visual impairments to cross a river using stepping stones!

Saujan, one of the trekkers, told us about his experiences that day:

It was my first time guiding someone and that was a completely different experience. We managed to get along well and I can already see how amazing it will be to have different people and experiences coming together. Everyone was supportive of one another and willing to give things a go! That’s definitely the spirit that we need for Morocco! Let the countdown begin!

Family Building Society are our ‘powered by’ sponsors for the trek. We spoke to David Cox, Marketing Executive at Family Building Society about the trek:

We’ve been supporting SeeAbility for almost 2 years now, not only providing funding for some of their events, but we’ve also had a number of our staff volunteer their time too. It’s clear that SeeAbility is a cause that resonates with our staff. Sponsoring the trek to Morocco will be a great way to showcase this bond, and we look forward to seeing the photos and reading all about this amazing journey!

If you want to make a difference you don’t have to climb mountains! Show your support by inviting your friends to explore their senses at a special themed evening using our free kit! Download our sensory pack and be a part of #TeamMorocco!
