Tom's Story:
Tom aged 21, moved into Windmill Court in Honiton. He has limited communication, mobility and independence skills. We were originally told that Tom would never be able to operate his electric wheelchair on his own or develop his daily living skills.

With his SeeAbility Rehabilitation Officer, Tom worked to create a long term plan so that he could develop all of these skills. With our specialist support he has learnt new guide techniques so that he can now operate his chair safely!

With consistent support, his vocabulary has vastly improved too. He now communicates his needs better and this has had a noticeable effect on his self-belief.

Tom worked hard to learn his new skills and is now making clear independent choices, giving his life a real focus and thoroughly enjoying whizzing around in his wheelchair.

Simon's Story:
When Simon started attending SeeAbility's Activity Centre in Wellington, he had very limited verbal skills. Although this severely limited his interaction with those around him, it didn't hide his natural sense of humour.
Over time, Simon showed that he had the ability to communicate verbally and staff worked diligently to teach him new words to use in his daily activities. Encouraged by staff, Simon is learning to use his new found voice to make choices about his likes and dislikes!
Learning to talk is a huge achievement for Simon and is giving him a more inclusive and enjoyable life.
