Melissa is 16 and has Juvenile Batten's Disease. She was very frightened and anxious when she first arrived at Heather House, Tadley in September 2008.
She can no longer walk, relies on her wheelchair and can experience sudden waves of fear and panic when moved. This restricted the leisure activities she could participate in.
The residential staff worked with the physiotherapy team to ensure Melissa was always moved in a consistent way and built in massage, stretching and ball control as part of her support plan. All of this has hugely increased her confidence.
After just a few months, Melissa was able to control her fears and panic. She trusted in her Physiotherapist and was able to take a ride on our specially adapted bike, which she really enjoys.
