Don't overlook your eyes - an eye test is an eye health check!

Have an eye test today!!

National Eye Health Week

SeeAbility has always promoted the importance of regular sight tests for everyone.
We've now joined forces with other eye care organisations and are supporting the National Eye Health Week, because Vision Matters.

From June 14th - 20th 2010 everyone will be encouraged to have an eye test. Vision is the sense that people fear losing the most, yet 50% of all sight loss could be prevented by having regular sight tests.

But you don't have to wait until June to get an eye test. Book one today!

As well as checking your vision a test can also give an insight into your general health and detect other eye conditions.

Of the many eye conditions which may cause blindness in adults within the UK, there are four which with early detection through regular eye tests, can be prevented or treated!

See it through your own eyes, Glaucoma
See it through your own eyes, Macular Degeneration

Thanks to Alistair Fielder, Professor of Ophthalmology, and Gordon Ilett, Optometrist with a special interest in eye health and learning disability, for their professional advice on the above eye conditions.

SeeAbility is supporting the UK Vision Strategy, launched in April 2008, which has three main aims:-
  • To improve the eye health of the people of the UK.
  • To eliminate avoidable sight loss and to deliver excellent support to those with a sight problem.
  • To enhance the inclusion, participation and independence of blind and partially sighted people.

650 organisations and individuals contributed to the strategy which is supported by the government of the UK.

SeeAbility works to support people with a visual impairment and multiple disabilities but we are also championing this ground breaking collaboration, to improve general eye health.

We are proud to be producing a series of eye health messages for all visitors to our web site to promote a better understanding the importance of eye health for all of us.
