Rehabilitation and Low Vision Services

RehabilitationSeeAbility underpins all service provision with a rehabilitative and inclusive approach through which we enable individuals to develop their participation and skills in all aspects of daily living. Our rehabilitative ethos is promoted by qualified rehabilitation workers for the visually impaired and implemented by all SeeAbility staff.

SeeAbility offers assessment, training and social inclusion support

Through rehabilitation workers for the visually impaired, SeeAbility offers:

  • Assessment - vision, environment and independent living skills
  • Skills Training - mobility & orientation, communication and daily living skills
  • Support to attain social inclusion - working with individuals and the local community to promote access to services and facilities and challenge the barriers in society that disable people
  • Visual impairment awareness training.

SeeAbility supports better eye health care for individuals

Rehabilitation workers also support individuals:

  • to access clinical assessments of their vision
  • to identify and support the use of low vision aids that enhance functional vision
  • by promoting access to good eye health care.

Visual impairment rehabilitation services are integral to SeeAbility services. You can also buy them as a stand-alone service on a consultancy or short-term basis.

SeeAbility improves opportunities for social inclusion

SeeAbility has a staff training programme which aims to improve opportunities for social inclusion for people who use the services.

This social inclusion training programme provides support staff with enhanced knowledge and skills in issues of rehabilitation with people who have a visual impairment.

SeeAbility's social inclusion training programme was independently evaluated in December 2005 and concluded that "it has been a great success and has contributed greatly to enabling SeeAbility to provide a more unique rehabilitative service".
