SeeAbility's Just 4 You Fund enables visually impaired people with multiple disabilities to enjoy new life experiences, which help develop their individual skills, self esteem and social interaction.

Here are just a few examples of the type of life experiences achieved and the benefits they provide.

Paul's story:

Paul recently received a new computer paid for by SeeAbility’s Just 4 You Fund.

This is Paul’s first computer. He is now learning a new skill by using switches which enable him to interact with a computer game that allows him to make up his own stories. Paul’s reaction clearly shows that using the computer gives him great pleasure.

Paul has demonstrated very good understanding of how to use the switches and in doing so has shown that this could be a great potential for him to use this as an effective communication aid in the near future.

Clare's story:

Clare is 37 years old and loves music. She is visually impaired and has physical and learning difficulties.

Clare enjoys all types of music but was reliant on those around her to access it for her when she wanted it.

SeeAbility's Rehabilitation team believed Claire had the capability to learn how to use a wireless laptop with appropriate software, specifically designed for someone
with her abilities so she could access music herself giving her greater independence. The equipment was purchased through the Just 4 You Fund.

Clare began learning new skills and by allowing her support worker to guide her hand to the appropriate place she quickly was able to turn the laptop
on, follow the program's audio instructions to load a CD, select a music track, eject the CD, close the program and turn it off again!

Clare is clearly happy with her achievements, clapping her hands and giggling. In time Clare will be able to do more independently and will be
supported to access the internet to purchase her own choice of music, giving her even greater independence and enjoyment.

Karl's story:

Karl is 22 years old and a huge sports fan. Karl has limited vision.
Karl plays in the National British Blind Sport Visually Impaired Football League, which is dedicated to providing visually impaired people throughout
the UK with the opportunity to participate and compete in professionally organised and officiated football events. His team is South West Rovers.

Playing sport helps Karl keep fit and increase his personal skills by working out his own travel arrangements and be with his friends.

The Just 4 You Fund contributed towards the escalating travel costs to attend training and games around the country, so that Karl can continue to enjoy his
football with his friends.

Ian's Story:

Ian is in his 50s and receives support in all aspects of his life. He is blind and has a learning disability.

Ian likes routine and avoids noise at all costs which limits his social life and he finds forming friendships incredibly difficult. Consequently, he rarely goes out
and can feel isolated.

His support team knew that Ian would benefit from experiencing an alternative daily routine and being with new people. Together they agreed that a few
days on a canal boat would be perfect for him.

The trip required months of planning and meant introducing gradual changes to his daily routine, so that whilst away, Ian supported by staff, felt confident to
visit busy restaurants, order his own food and talk to new people.

Ian's holiday funded by the Just 4 You Fund was a great success. It's given him a new experience, helped boost his confidence and develop new social
skills. He is now busy planning his next trip.
