Running Relay to Land's End from John O'Groats
What is Le Jo'g?
Le Jo'g stands for Lands End from John O'Groats and is a unique nationwide running relay event involving teams from across the UK running approximately 1,000 miles down the length of Great Britain in aid of charity. Over 100 runners from Unum, a leading disability insurance company, covered the distance by running an average of 10 miles each passing a baton between them as they went.
This years event took place from Saturday 1st September to Saturday 15th September 2007, please see the route the event took. The runners were blessed with some of the best weather of the summer for the two weeks that the event took place. The teams of seven runners took on a 70 mile stage in a day, and the baton passed from team to team as it travelled the length of the country. Despite the gruelling task of running 10 miles on undulating grounds, one of the runners in the final stage team commented 'Everyone seemed to have a good time and I'm really glad I was there!'
The main purpose of the event was to raise funds for SeeAbility. Unum, who's brainchild Le Jo'g is, collected £30,000 last year and have pledged to raise at least £35,000 as a result of this years efforts. NFU mutual also entered a team who ran one of the stages and have been raising funds for SeeAbility.
To get a feel for the team spirit please read the page "A day in the life of a Le Jo'g team."
The 2008 event will be taking place in the first two weeks of September.
The name LE JO'G is used by kind permission of the Land's End- John O'Groats (LE JOG) Ltd
