What a difference a chair makes!
Tadley based charity SeeAbility has been delighted with donations received from the local community to provide a custom built wheelchair for one of its residents, Paul Button.
The SmartChair, which cost over £13,000, was delivered to Paul, who has no useful sight, in time for Christmas and he has lost no time finding out what it can do for him. The determination and concentration required to master the controls are already making an impact on his sense of achievement and self-esteem.
Paul’s mother, Mrs Sue Button, said, “Paul is so happy with his new wheelchair. We would like to thank everyone who helped. It is a wonderful gift because it will give him mobility and choice, two things it is easy to take for granted.”
David Light, Paul’s specialist Rehabilitation Practitioner, explained that previously Paul was totally dependent on others to push him. Having some control over his mobility has given Paul a new interest in being active, taught him new skills and allowed him to explore his ability to manoeuvre the wheelchair.
