The Rt Hon Sir John Major KG, CH - Hosts Dinner for SeeAbility

Sir John Major, as Patron of SeeAbility, hosted a dinner on June 12 at Mosimann's Club in London.  During dinner Sir John expressed his personal thanks to SeeAbility's Sight Pioneers for their generous support of the eye 2 eye Campaign over the last three years.

SeeAbility, formerly The Royal School for the Blind, launched the eye 2 eye Campaign to ensure people with a learning disability access appropriate eye healthcare.  There are 1.5m people with a learning disability in the UK and the vast majority is unable to have standard sight tests. Some people lose their sight needlessly when a specially-adapted sight test could have saved their sight and enhanced their quality of life.  SeeAbility's groundbreaking eye 2 eye Campaign is transforming the lives of many people with a learning disability.

"We are enormously grateful to our Sight Pioneers, who have given very generously to the eye 2 eye Campaign", explains Elizabeth Wagstaff, Chair of SeeAbility Trustees. " Sir John is an outstanding Patron of SeeAbility because he is genuinely committed to our work.   We value this consistently generous support which has enabled us to help so many people."

In June 2007 SeeAbility launched the Look Up eyecare information service together with RNIB which offers web and telephone-based advice and support.
SeeAbility's eye 2 eye Campaign, through community development work and Look Up has now reached 30,000 individuals and organisations to promote better eye health for people with a learning disability.
