Fir Tree Lodge Celebrates it's Birthday!!Fir Tree Lodge, SeeAbility's residential home for young people with profound and multiple disabilities, celebrated their second anniversary on Sunday July 13th with the opening of a new sensory room by Warwick Lovegrove, former Mayor and Councillor of Basingstoke and Dean. SeeAbility, formerly The Royal School for the Blind, commissioned Fir Tree Lodge to create an environment where young people with multiple disabilities are able to maximise their potential through an individually-tailored programme of specialist support. The sensory room incorporates tactile boards, surround sound, lights and mirrors and creates a relaxing yet stimulating environment which is particularly valuable to people with profound and multiple disabilities. The afternoon continued in celebratory mode with a barbecue and live music from local band Last Orders. "We are delighted that Mr Lovegrove was able to open the sensory room and join in the celebrations," said Karen Hebdon, Manager of Fir Tree Lodge. "Fir Tree Lodge is a very special place and we are very proud of our dedicated staff. We know that the sensory room will make a huge difference to the lives of the young people who live here and we are very grateful to everyone who helped raise funds for it." |
