Look Up Information Service
Working to improve eye care and vision for people with visual impairment and learning disabilities
The new information service, Look Up, was launched in June 2007. This development is the result of a collaboration between SeeAbility and RNIB and is dedicated to providing easily accessed information on learning disability and sight problems on a specific web site, www.lookupinfo.org
In the first three months of its operation, Look Up received over 9,000 hits and more than 5,000 fact sheets were read or downloaded. Each month we highlight the experiences of people with visual impairment and learning disability in "Story of the Month". There are forms you can down load to help prepare for an eye test and to record the optometrist's findings afterwards.
Feedback so far has been very positive but do visit our site and see what you think and then let us know! One visitor who accessed the fact sheet, "Making Sense of Prescriptions for Spectacles", has written recently that, "this information is extremely rare on the web and you are one of two sites that I could find after an hour's search. I preferred your explanation with easy and friendly examples."
Phase 1 of the development of the site is complete and Phase 2 is nearing completion to go live in January 2008. Phase 2 will include items on hearing problems as well as further information on working with people with severe disabilities.
Phase 3 of the site will cover Communication and Skills for Life and should be on stream during 2008.
