Unum staff take to the 'Fairways'

Unum staff at Fleet

On Friday August 17th a team of 7 employees from disability insurance firm Unum, spent the day at SeeAbility ''Fairways'' in Fleet. The team was made up of staff from the Claims Management Department based at Basingstoke. This is part of a programme of volunteering that will see a second team from Basingstoke volunteer at SeeAbility Heather House in Tadley next month and a team from their Dorking office visit Denecroft in Guildford later this year.

The challenge set for the Unum team was to paint the many wooden fence panels that surround the gardens.

After a welcome and introduction from centre manager, Pat Batterham, the Unum team were given a brief tour of Fairways and met some of the residents. Then it was down to business as they headed out into the garden to meet the paint, brushes and that fence!

The Unum team of Georgie, Catherine, Suzanne, Kay, Kirsty, Ruth and Tim took the challenge in great spirits and soon settled into the job.

At lunchtime, they took a welcome break from painting and were served a sandwich lunch 'al fresco'. For the afternoon session the team were helped on their way by one of the residents at Fairways, Mark, who played his guitar as they worked. With time to spare the team not only finished the fences, but also had time to paint a few wooden planters too.

Catherine, one of the Unum team, said afterwards

"We were made to feel very welcome by both the staff and residents, which included a lovely lunch and being serenaded in the afternoon by Mark and his expert guitar playing. It was also a very good team building exercise everyone involved appeared happy with the end result."

Another great team effort from Unum staff. Many thanks.
