Royal Visit For SeeAbility's Willow Way

HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, Patron of SeeAbility, was in Exeter  on the 26th September to visit Willow Way.

Willow Way is a unique accommodation-based supported living development for people with a visual impairment and additional disabilities enabling them to live in their own home and receive an individually-tailored care programme from SeeAbility.  The shared-ownership scheme opened last year and gives tenants the support they need to live as independently as possible - helping them to access learning opportunities as well as a wide range of social and leisure activities.

Vice Lord-Lieutenant presented Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Mrs Hazel Slack and Lady Mayoress, Mrs Valerie Nosworthy, Mrs Elizabeth Wagstaff, Vice-Chairman, SeeAbility Trustees  and Tony Perkins, Deputy Manager of Willow Way.   Miss Sue Bayes, Seeability Registered Manager for Devon, accompanied by Elizabeth Wagstaff, explained to The Duchess how the ground-breaking project has vastly improved the quality of life of its tenants.

"We are delighted that HRH The Duchess of Gloucester was able to visit us  today," explained Tony Perkins, Deputy Manager.  "Willow Way gives people more choices and allows them to be more involved in the local community.  SeeAbility is  committed to creating environments which offer individuals with multiple disabilities a level of independence previously considered impossible.  Willow Way is widely regarded as an example of excellence in provision of this kind."

The Duchess met tenants and their families so she was able to hear how Willow Way has transformed the lives of the people who live there.
