Richard runs the London Marathon for SeeAbility
 |
Richard Smith from Ewell will be running the Flora London Marathon on the 22nd April in aid of SeeAbility.
Preferring rugby to running, Richard admits it's going to take hours of training to be ready for the challenge of running 26.2 miles!
Richard's father, Roger Smith, was an enthusiastic fundraiser for SeeAbility, taking part in the charity's running and cycling events.
Richard said, "My dad has hung up his marathon running shoes, so it's now down to me! It's great to support a charity based in Epsom, where I grew up and where I know the money will be well spent".
Richard is expecting to raise £1,300 and has been generously sponsored by the company Keiba Solutions. In a bid to raise extra funds, pupils from Coombe Girl's High School in New Malden, will be holding a cake sale. In addition, Richard will of course have plenty of encouragement from his colleagues at Putney Police Station where he works.
Richard and other members of the SeeAbility marathon team will be raising funds to help SeeAbility's work with people who are blind or partially sighted with additional disabilities, to overcome the obstacles that they face and to ensure they reach their potential.
If you would like to support our running team this year, you can donate by calling the fundraising team directly on 01372 755 014.
