SeeAbility's Valentine Surprise!

Unum present Le Jo''g cheque to SeeAbilitySeeAbility Chief Executive Officer David Scott-Ralphs shows his delight as he receives  £30,000 from Dorking based Susan Ring, UnumProvident Chief Executive Officer.

UnumProvident, the UK's leading disability insurance provider has chosen Epsom-based SeeAbility as their charity beneficiary and the cheque is the result of UnumProvident's Le Jo'G, a sponsored run by its staff and other organisations from John O'Groats to Land's End, which took place in September.

All proceeds will be going towards SeeAbility's eye 2 eye Campaign which provides specialist services to ensure people with a learning disability are able to access eye health care which includes sight tests tailored to their needs and low vision support.

Findings from similar projects indicate that improved eye care has a significant impact on the lives of people with a learning disability and leads to greater social inclusion and personal independence.

Sixty-six-year old Ivan Storey, who has a learning disability and a visual impairment, had always wanted to tandem cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End as part of his lifetime's ambition.  Last September Ivan did just that by completing the entire Le Jo'G course with the help of a team of volunteers from UnumProvident.

"We are delighted with this very generous donation from UnumProvident," said David Scott -Ralphs. "This is a fantastic boost to our eye 2 eye Campaign and it is going to help hundreds of people with a learning disability to get the information and help they need to address their visual impairment."

UnumProvident staff based in Dorking provided teams to run in Le Jo'g and cyclists to accompany Ivan on his tandem.
