Dollond & Aitchison are supporting the eye 2 eye Campaign!

D&A

Like SeeAbility, D&A believe that sight is one of the most precious gifts we have, and regular eye tests are essential to ensure your eyes remain healthy. From the support centre in Birmingham, D&A and its subsidiary companies support a network of almost 400 stores nationwide.

Regular and effective sight tests are rare among people with learning disabilities therefore visual impairment often goes undetected - leading to poor eye health; dependence; and in some instances preventable blindness. With the support of D&A, SeeAbility is working to address this by raising the awareness of the need for regular sight tests for people with learning disabilities amongst eye care professionals.

D&A offer free glasses repairs, and any donations in lieu of these repairs are going directly to SeeAbility. A glasses cleaning cloth has also been designed by one of the branches, and will be sold to the public with money from each sale again coming to SeeAbility.

In April 2008 D&A branches around the country held their second fundraising week, during which are variety of activities were undertaken to raise money for SeeAbility's eye 2 eye Campaign.

D&A branches across the UK began their fundraising activities from 1st April 2007 with the aim of exceeding the £100,000 pledged, as well as raising the charity's profile with consumers and the industry.

From the 18th - 22nd June 2007 the Central Office in Birmingham held a fundraising week, which coincided with learning disability week. A number of activities took place including a cake sale and coffee morning, a 'regatta' and an extremely entertaining drumming session. From 22nd - 28th September 2007 D&A branches around the country held a variety of fundraising activities in their stores. At Christmas D&A held a raffle at their Christmas party, proceeds of went to SeeAbility.

D&A franchises have also come up with their own unusual fundraising activity, where a 'gang of robbers' will randomly appear at franchises across the country and enforce a number of money-making events!
